Classics Challenge
July 1-November 30, 2007So, Kathrin at Crazy Cozy Murders is hosting the Classics Challenge. Here are her rules:

After some deliberation, I have come up with the following list:
- Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray
- The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Emmuska Orczy
- Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Alternatives/Extras:
- Middlemarch by George Eliot
- Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
- Tess of the D'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy
All because I'm crazy, very crazy...

I have to take a break from challenges for a bit although it's tempting. I really enjoyed Frankenstein. Tess is on my list for the TBR challenge.
I've heard good things about Tess, so I'm going to try and get to it. Yes, I keep joining these addicting challenges, but I figured--what's going to happen if I don't finish? :)
Oh boy, now I want to join this one! I have read quite a few classics this year.
I want to do this one. But I can't, I just can't!

And yes, Frankenstein, the only one I've read from you list, is really good.
I absolutely LOVE The Scarlet Pimpernel!!! One of my faves. Never did like Vanity Fair and actually HATED Little Women. Too "chic lit" friendly for me. I like more adventure, crim, etc type classics.
Oh and BK is not bad! It's not like, say, W&P. ^__^
If you like the Pimpernel you'd probably like Sabatini's work as well. I rec some of his books here:

SUCKER!! Who am I kidding though? I keep signing up for challenges too. It's almost a worse addiction than books themselves!!
I love, love, love Thomas Hardy. I hope you make it to Tess (although this is one I haven't read!) I'm going to be reading Little Women sometime this year too!

Mailyn - I haven't heard of Sabatini, but from your reviews, they sound interesting. I'm looking forward to SP, but I'm going to wait for Brothers K--for now.
Stephanie - Sucker? Me? What?? I have only read Hardy's poetry (hmmm, am I think of the same guy?). My good friend says Tess is one of her favorites, so I'm going to try and squeeze it in (I don't think it will be a problem...if I can stop joining other challenges...)

Kathrin - *so far* I've been pretty good about not procrastinating with reviews. When I was keeping a handwritten journal sometimes it was more difficult to keep up! Looking foward to starting this challenge--thanks for hosting!

I love Little Women. It was one of the first classics I read as a young girl. I think I wanted to be Jo.
* Alyson - I wanted to be Jo also, but not as much as I wanted to be Anne (of Green Gables). :) The Scarlet Pimpernel is one of the many "handmeups" from my younger sisters. I've heard great things about it!
