Desperation - Booking Throuh Thursday
What’s the most desperate thing you’ve read because it was the only available reading material?
If it was longer than a cereal box or an advertisement, did it turn out to be worth your while?
I must say that this is an interesting question. I don't think I've ever been that desperate. At home I have stacks and stacks of books that I haven't read. If I go to my parents' homes, they have stacks and stacks of books I could also devour, but most of the time I travel with the book I'm reading and an extra in case I finish (and sometimes two in case my back up turns out to be a dud).
Well, I guess the other day I was visiting Mom, and while I was eating my cereal I found myself reading the Victoria's Secret catalog sitting on the kitchen table. I say read, but I do find myself reading about the products instead of just looking at the pictures. Wow, I guess I was desperate! Most days I check email or such while eating breakfast. Sometimes while in the shower I read the shampoo/soap bottles, but mostly in french (which I don't speak), because I like to see if can understand what it says. I'll stick to my books, thank you.
Happy BTT everyone!

Hahaha! You're the second one to write you read the shampoo bottles! Someone really needs to invent waterproof bookcovers.
Your kitty is a cutie. I should post my two on my blog.
I've come to notice that a lot of lit bloggers are also cat lovers. Is there some connection here? :)
Thanks for visiting!
hey there!
I will be sure to pass by next time we do do something crazy. I am still going through Proust but have a 'nut' who finished a few days ago. Havent been blogging because want one mega post on Proust. Ya know?
Is it crazy that at 24, I dont think there is enough time to read everything?
I've been desparate enough to read information on packages; now that I'm doing Weight Watchers to take ten pounds off this summer, I'm reading too much on that nutrition label. (I'd rather stick to Proust, Nessie!) It was nice to have you visit me today, Trish.
Nessie--I know the feeling. I'll be 26 in August, and there are still so many books (not even including the ones that I'd like to go back and re-read). I don't think I'll be attempting Proust anytime soon, though. The Bronte challenge would have beenn good, though. I loved Wuthering Heights (favorite classic) and Jane Eyre.
The french on the shampoo bottles? Good grief. We're a deranged, desperate lot, aren't we?
Not that there's a thing wrong with it. Nope. Nothing whatsoever...

LOL, shampoo bottles? That's two that I've read today...haha.
I dont' read the VS catalogues, I look at what I want and see if they have it in my size, if they do I'm happy if they don't, I close the book and move right along...=)
Happy BTT!
but mostly in french (which I don't speak), because I like to see if can understand what it says.
I do the same thing. Or if I'm in a public restroom I'll read the signs in Spanish to see if I can figure out what they say.
Glad I'm not the only one.
*CJ - yes, deranged might be a good word. :)
*Rowena, I'm glad I'm not the only one who reads whatever is in sight (including shampoo). Thanks for coming by!
*Holly - I do that too. My favorite is the bathroom at Macaroni Grill where they play the italian lessons. :) Thanks for stopping by.
Hey! You have a new look! Very pretty. :)
Shampoo bottles?! LOL!! I've read some trully horrible books that I've forgotten. That's how bad they were.
Trish - your question brought back a memory for me. My father was in the hospital, and I went to visit him. He was sitting in bed, reading, and I asked what book it was. He said it was the only one he could find, but it wasn't all that great. He flipped it over so I could see, and it turned out to be a Danielle Steele novel (and he'd of course never heard of her, because he tends to read the kind of books Ludlum and Le Carre and Cussler write). I had to laugh! And of course, I'd brought some books for him with me, so he did not have to continue with his desperation read.
I was going to post something about this today for Thursday....and I just couldn't think of anything to say! I always have a book around with me, and I can't think of a time when I didn't!
Of course, I always read the shampoo bottles in the shower.
* Joy - Thanks for popping by. Yes, new look, but I'm not sure how I feel about the colors (don't think there's enough contrast). I'm pretty computer illit, so we'll see.
* Mailyn - If I can't get into a book in the first 25 pages, I leave it for another day. Fortunately I haven't read too many terrible books--although I have read a number I didn't like.
* DarlaD - Thanks for the story. Yes, I think us bookworms do find ourselves in moments of "I need to read NOW desperation"
* Stephanie - Glad I'm not the only "deranged" one (as CJ called me...haha!). I don't know why we have that innate desire to read that we will read anything and everything put in front of us. I don't think my husband even knows what brand of shampoo he uses. :)
I have a face wash that uses the colon (uh, grammatical colon that is) improperly. That bugs me almost every morning. Haha!
OH! I forgot about the Macaroni Grill bathroom. I love that. I always make a point to go in there when we visit (even if I don't have to use the bathroom).
