Feeding the Addiction: New Books
This time I have justification for going book shopping--up coming challenges. I went "into town" this weekend (Dallas 3 hours away), and hit Barnes and Noble and Half Price Books. It's much easier to do this while Hubby is out of town so I won't get the menacing stares coming his way (must hide all evidence of new books in the next hour!!) :)
Above you will see my new finds, plus my reading buddy, Maggie. I think she's as excited as I am--although most of these are for challenges that don't start until July (which can't get here fast enough!!).
What I found:
The World According to Garp by John Irving - for my Book Award Reading Challenge (BARC) and By the Decades Reading Challenge (BTD). I've never read anything by Irving, and I've heard this is one of his best.
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott - for one of my Yahoo bookclubs. I used to own this book, but my mom sold it in a garage sale several years ago. She was told (by me) afterward not to touch my books! All of my RL Stine books went in that G-Sale also. Sad...
No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy - because I saw on Alyson's blog that there is a movie, then I saw the preview, and then I had to buy the book--of course. I may start that one tonight since it isn't for any challenges.
The Shipping News by Annie Proulx - For BARC. I saw the movie years ago and enjoyed it, but I can't remember it at all (hmmm...)
The Road by Cormac McCarthy - because it was onsale at B&N. I was looking for The Book Thief, but they were all sold out. Its not on my BARC list, but I can certainly add it on! What's one more book, right?
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini - because I've heard its better than The Kite Runner, which I loved, and also for my Armchair Traveler Challenge.

I just received No Country for Old Men from a book order last night. It will be my third McCarthy book as I've read The Road and Blood Meridian, both of which I enjoyed.
Sorry you couldn't find The Book Thief. My wife got it for me through Amazon, didn't realize it was so hard to find in stores!
The only McCarthy book I've read is The Crossing, but obviously it was enough to spark my interest. I'm not giving up my search yet for The Book Thief! I WILL get it somehow. :)

I'm about to start No Country for Old Men. I finally saw the trailer too, and it looks fantastic.
Bookstores are my bane. I went into the one local one in my small town (Book World) yesterday to buy a magazine. I walked out with almost $70 in books. This has got to stop...
In my defense, however, I got the next two books in Krueger's series and Evanovich's series, so that's acceptable. Isn't it?
I also got The Book Thief from Amazon.

* Those reading McCarthy- about halfway through NCfOM and I'm really worried about how it could possibly end (besides damn bloody!)
* CJ - I'm very jealous you got The Book Thief. I had to put some books for the Armchair Traveler Challenge on my wishlist, so I might just break down and order it off Amazon
* Nymeth - Maggie is very sweet, but sometimes a little whiney (probably because I baby her to death). If I am reading a book (at home), she has to be laying on my chest/tummy. But, yes, sweet.
Maggie is beautiful. Cats make excellent reading buddies. :)
Sold out of The Book Thief? Horrors! That's one of the best books I've read in my life - you must find a copy! Remains of the Day is another favorite. Looks like you've got some great reading ahead.
My mother was always selling my things in garage sales; I'm certain that's why I'm clingy with stuff. I need to get over that, but I agree that mothers should not be allowed to touch the books when it's garage-sale time.

Nice stack :) I *loved* The World According to Garp. It's very quirky and very funny (with sad bits thrown in for good measure too). I look forward to reading your review for the Book Awards challenge when you are done with it.
Yeah! Thanks Rhinoa for the heads up. I'm looking forward to reading it--I've heard lots of good things about Garp. I love quirky; its been too long since I've read something that I've found "clever."
I'm reading your blog in reverse order, and its fun to see the reviews and THEN see the stack of new books. I'm so impressed that you've already read so many of them.
I recently read Little Women for the first time since 5th grade. I didn't really like it this time around.
Lisa - June was a good reading month for me (I haven't been quite as productive as most other book bloggers). I'm not sure how many of these I'll finish in July, but I'm reading Little Women right now (I'm only on chapter 3, but it seems really disjointed--jumping all over the place).
What can I say, though, I'm a bookaholic! :)
