Wow, I'm really surprised that you didn't like Dinner at the Homesick! I'll have to go read your review right now to find out why. That is usually known as Tyler's great work...I wonder if you like any other Tylers??? Going to read your review now....probably should have before I wrote this comment. haha.

Some great books there!! I just finished The Tender Bar by JR Moehringer. Excellent memoir!!

I'm not a big fan of Anne Tyler either. I read a couple books and truthfully...they just really annoyed me!! Saint Maybe and Back When We Were Grownups.

Lisa - Thanks for popping by. This is the only Tyler book I've read, but I found it just so darn depressing! I think my review explains it better...

Stephanie - Thanks for the suggestion. I think Joy also read that one and really liked it. I'm not sure if I'll be picking up any more Tyler, but I have heard good things (I guess everyone is entitled to her own opinion!)

I agree with Stephanie. I really liked The Tender Bar.

Pop over to my blog and look at the Best Reads in my sidebar. Maybe something will strike your fancy.

As for Tyler, I didn't care for the book I read by her at all! (Digging to America)

Also, I want to say, thank you for rating your books for how you truly feel. I appreciate it greatly!

Joy - I have to laugh because I still have a difficult time with ratings. After posting this review I noticed that Heart of Darkness ranks top--but that doesn't mean I thought it was the most entertaining (I'd probably have to say McCarthy takes that one this month). There are just so many different components involved in ranking!! I don't know, I don't see the point however of ranking a literary classic with a 4 or 5 just because its a classic. Perhaps that's what you were getting at...?

I don't know except to suggest a few historical fiction novels?

I'm in love with the Blue Satan series as well as the Sebastian St. Cyr books. Both very awesome series I highly recommend. I've reviewed them on my blog and a lot of people seem to like them. Un;ess you only like contemps. Can't help you there because I read mostly historical or fantasy stuff.

Oh and if you are into the classics I suggest anything by Sabatini. Try Scaramouche or Captain Blood.

Of if you want something more complex try The Brothers Karamazov, Crime & Punishment or War & Peace. All my faves! ^__^

It took me a while to understand what you thought I was "getting at", but rest assured I wasn't trying to say anything other than IN GENERAL (not just classics) it makes ME feel better to know that you rate books how you truly feel, which are not all 4's and 5's. I often feel that real book lovers (in particular) tend to rate high because they just love to read words...any words. Do you know what I mean? I wasn't trying to say any more than that. :)

BTW ~ You are correct in the fact that I do not (in general) like classics; however, there are a few that have made it past a 3. LOL The only one I can remember at the moment is A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN. I wish I did like them more and I'm glad you liked HEART OF DARKNESS...hopefully I will too. (there is always hope)

Mailyn - UGH!! I bought Brothers K to read for this month, but I'm too scared. :) The print is really small and the pages are thin and overall its just daunting. I'll have to work myself up to that one. I prefer contemporary fiction, but I do read a lot of classics (I guess because of school I got used to them).

Joy - LOL, that comment I made for HOD was in reference to your reading of Cather. Yes, I do love reading, and I love to read whatever, but I don't love/like everything that I read. If I don't, I happily move on to the next book. :) I think I'm actually a really picky reader/rater. For some reason I expect a lot from what I read...hmmm...?
