Random Book Thoughts

I'm still reading The Left Hand of Darkness and feeling very impatient with the book and my reading progress this month. Hopefully I'll finish the book by Friday, but that will make 4 (mostly short) reads for February. And that's fine. I'm just impatient. Ha! Ohhh, and I don't even want to get started on my progress on Eragon (audiobook). I'm on disc 5/14. Bleh.

But in other booking news, I received two books this week! Joy was so kind to send me a copy of 'Tis after reading my review of Angela's Ashes a few weeks ago. I was so excited to receive the book! And then, I also received my prize book, Half of a Yellow Sun, from Michelle for the Decades Challenge. Thank you so much ladies for making my week!!In addition to those books, I also discovered some abandoned books in my in-laws storage. We were putting some equipment in the shop a few weeks ago and there in the dust and dirt and who-knows what else was a collection of Mark Twain and Charles Dickens. I already have a pretty nice set of Dickens, so I asked hubby to hint to mom-in-law that if the books are just going to waste away in the shop and be eaten by silverfish, I would be happy to give the books a home. Hubby was down in Coleman a few days later and brought me back ALL of the books. Not sure what I'll do with the Dickens yet, but I'm thrilled with the Mark Twain set (all in all its a medium U-Haul box two-thirds full of books!!). Hmmm...need a new bookshelf. :)

And finally, I discovered Google Reader this week. Where the heck have I been??? I love reading everyone's blog, but sometimes I get bogged down with life and find it difficult to keep up. But, now all I have to do is look at my Google Reader and see who has new posts! I'm not sure if I'm any quicker at reading everything, but I feel so much more in the know. Ha ha! I guess it's the little things. Thanks Google, for making my life so much easier!

Hope everyone is having a great week so far!

Google reader really is a treasure! I don't know how I ever managed without it.

Those are such lovely editions! yay for getting new books.

The Left Hand of Darkness gets much better in the second half or so...I understand how you feel, though, I got impatient as well!

Google Reader is the best, if at least making you more efficient in blog hopping and time wasting. I've recently discovered how convenient google docs can be so saving info.

Beautiful books, and enjoy Half of a Yellow Sun, it's a great book.

Google Reader has made my blogging life so much easier! I read twice as many blogs now as I did before. Great addition to your collection! I love it when the need for a new bookshelf crops up.

*Nymeth - I'm really excited for the Mark Twain books--they have such beautiful drawings. I really need to get a bookshelf where I can showcase my "aesthetic" books since most are boxed away from moving so frequently.

Last night I hit the 200/300 page mark yesterday. Estravan has just rescued Genly from prison (which to me was one of the best parts--so well described). Sometimes it takes me a while to figure out who the narrator is, though. I hope to finish it by Friday.

*Raidergirl - I'm really enjoying Google Reader so far; I don't know a whole lot about Google docs...

I'm really looking forward to Half of a Yellow Sun--glad you enjoyed it!

*Jeane - Hubby got me a 6 foot bookshelf for Christmas, but I filled it completely (had lots of books that have been in boxes for years from moving so frequently while in college). He jokes that soon our house will be overrun with books!!

I found The Left Hand of Darkness to be a very slow book, but I loved it regardless. Especially the bits of history and lore, much more than the actual journey being taken.

I just love it when I get free books in the mail! :)

*Paul - the book has moments where the story seems a little faster paced and easier to read, but science fiction is not a genre that I read a lot--so the language/descriptions are a challenge for me at times.

*Bethany - I LOVE new books as well--especially if they are gifts! I've heard really great things about Half of a Yellow Sun (and Purple Hibiscus--her first book). I'll let you know how it goes!

*Stephanie - you get a lot of ARCs right? If I ever run into more free reading time, I'll have to think about doing that. I'm afraid sometimes, though, that it would make reading a chore?

I have Half a Yellow Sun on hold at the library at this very minute. I'm looking forward to it.

I've always read all my blogs in Google Reader. I love it!! I've got tons of blogs in there, including yours!

*Maw Books - although I still can't seem to find enough time to read all the blogs I want, I feel much more organized with Google Reader. I can't believe I'm just now finding out about this tool now! :) I hope you enjoy Half of a Yellow Sun. I'll look forward to your review.
