"Her two younger sisters, still at school, pelted her with rose petals, and burst into tears when she kissed the groom.
The Ocheretko men strode into the church in their riding boots, embroidered shirts, and outlandish baggy trousers. The women wore wide swinging skirts and boots with little heels and coloured ribbons in their hair. They stood together in a fierce bunch at the back of the church and left abruptly at the end without tripping the priest."

Ooh, thanks Trish! I picked up my award. :)
Trish, thank you so much for passing me the award! I've also posted my answer for the meme! ;)
Thanks for playing along Trish. That sounds like a fun book to read. Being Ukrainian myself, I could probably appreciate it-lol.
Congrats, Trish. I think that button for the Bookworms Award is one of the coolest I've seen yet!
I agree with Jeane about the button!
That's a book I've been curious about for a long time. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it.
Thanks Trish! I played today.
First, thank you for the award! It's fun that in the blogging world, being called a "bookworm" is a compliment!
Second, had you been looking specifically for that book at the bookstore, or did it just catch your eye? I've never heard of it!
Third, I may have accidentally bought two brand new books for myself today with my coupon. Oops.
ohh I have been debating if i should buy it off for me :)
but congrats for the award girl :)
*Amanda - I hope you have a great day!
*Melody - I'll definitely pop over to see which book you picked!
*Dar - Bethany read A Short History a few months ago and then Melody reminded me of it this weekend--really looking forward to it!
*Jeane - I especially like the button--very cool.
*Nymeth - I probably won't get to read it until next year, but I've heard good things about it!
*Lisa - I'll pop over and see what you got!
*Laura - Bookworms rock! Haha! I heard of the book first through Bethany and then Melody (above) mentioned it in a review for another book by the author. I saw it on the clearance shelf at HPB, so I wasn't specificially looking for it. Can't wait to hear about your books!!
*Veens - A Short History? Bethany really liked it when she read it a couple of months ago! I don't know very much about it, though.
I've been tagged for this one and I think I've figured out which book is the closest. You'd laugh if you saw how many books I've got sitting nearby. I enjoyed A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian.
Oooh...I love that button, too!
Hey Trish, I tried finding an email contact for you but can't see one. Do you want my copy of Simple Little Words? I'd be having to send it to you if you still want to give it a read.
*Bookfool - Glad to hear you enjoyed Short History! I'm looking forward to it. I finally put away all the books that were surrounding my desk, but I had happened to visit Half Price Books that day and A Short History was right on top of my stack!
*Debi - The button is great! Not sure who made it?
*Dar - I sent you an email...let me know if you don't get it. :) My email is listed on the top left hand corner under "About Me"
