Arthurian Challenge and Some Awards

First of all, did you know that there is a Mister Linky devoted to your April Classics Challenge Reads? I only mention it because a few people didn't realize. Every month I'll put up a new Mister Linky.

Despite my good sense I've joined Becky's Arthurian Challenge. Against my good sense because one of my challenge rules is that I must already own elligble books. In this case I don't own any.

Challenge runs April 2009 - March 2010 and Becky is really flexible with the rules. Many many thanks and hugs to Nymeth who helped me make my list:

*King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table - Roger Lancelyn Green
*The Age of Chivalry - Thomas Bulfinch
*The Once and Future King - TH White
*The Mists of Avalon - Marion Zimmer Bradley
*The Merlin Triology - Mary Stewart

I'm looking to read the basics here, so if you have any recommendations to add, please let me know!

AWARDS

I've been blessed with a few awards this past week and am excited to pass them on (and of course these awards go straight back to the awardees).

Karen from BookBath presented me with the Zombie Chicken Award (I love this one!)

“The blogger who receives this award believes in the Tao of the zombie chicken - excellence, grace and persistence in all situations, even in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. These amazing bloggers regularly produce content so remarkable that their readers would brave a raving pack of zombie chickens just to be able to read their inspiring words. As a recipient of this world-renowned award, you now have the task of passing it on to at least 5 other worthy bloggers. Do not risk the wrath of the zombie chickens by choosing unwisely or not choosing at all…”

I'd like to pass this one on to these five bloggers:

Chris from Book-a-Rama
Joanne from The Book Zombie
Charley from Bending Bookshelf

Stephanie of Open Mind, Insert Book passed me the Proximidade Award

"This blog invests and believes in the PROXIMITY-nearness in space, time and relationships. These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement! Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers! Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this clever-written text into the body of their award."

I give the Proximidade Award to:
Corinne from The Book Nest
Kathy from BermudaOnion
Joanna from It's All About Me

Chris from Book-a-Rama and Dolce Bellezza gave me the Sisterhood Award

Which I present to:

Natasha from Maw Books
Jeane from Dog Ear Diary
Samantha from Sam's Book Blog
Valentina from Valentina's Room
Nicola from Back to Books
Serena from Savvy Verse & Wit

I can't tell you how much it means to receive your support and recognition. Thank you thank you. Please pass these awards on to other wonderful bloggers.

That zombie chicken award cracks me up!

I read The Once and Future King before my freshman year in high school (they required us to read that one and Mary Stewart's The Crystal Cave). I didn't enjoy it much (much less than the Crystal cave) but then again, I was 14...I think I should revisit it one day now that I"m a much more advanced reader.

Ah...another challenge! I'm refraining from joining more, LOL. But who knows when I'll change my mind in the near future?! :P

Congrats on the awards! I've to admit that the zombie chicken award is the coolest, hehe.

Why did you have to mention the Arthurian Challenge? Why? Hmmm, wonder if I can find some that will cross over onto the Classics Challenge.

I have The Mists of Avalon and i am presently put off reading it by the size! I need to get my head around how long it will take me to read it.

*Amanda - My friend Laura suggested The Crystal Cave so I might swap it out for something. I read Once and Future when in high school also, but I don't really remember.

*Melody - I hadn't really wanted to join anymore either, but I really want to read some Arthurian literature--plus this one trickles into next year if I need to use the extra time.

*Blacksheep - LOL! I'm sure there's something that would cross over. I'm not that familiar with Arthurian literature, but if you can cross-post, great!! :)

*Scrap girl - Uh oh--Nymeth did not mention the size of Mists of Avalon...and she knows that I'm not a fan of longer books. Eeeks! :) I might be swamping that one out in the future...

Trish, thank you so much for the award, it's so sweet. I'm really touched!

And - the only reason I never joined the Arthurian challenge is because I didn't know where to start. Since you and Nymeth have now come up with a basics list, I may have to steal it and join too! Argh! ;-)

Thanks so much for passing along the Sisterhood award, I will update my sidebar.

Congrats on receiving these awards as well. I really adore that Zombie Chicken award!

Two Arthurian recommendations, if you haven't read them: read Mary Stewart's Merlin trilogy (The Crystal Cave, The Hollow Hills, and The Last Enchantment); after all these years, they're still my favorite telling of the Arthur story. Mists of Avalon was good, too, but I enjoyed it much more as a 20-something feminist than I did later in life.

Also, if you get the chance, read Song of the Sparrow, by Lisa Ann Sandell. It's the story of Elaine, told in verse, and it's quite lovely.

Yay! Thanks for the zombie chicken award! And huge congrats on all your well-deserved awards :)

Good Luck with your Arthurian reading, I've not read many books of this genre at all. But I do have Mists of Avalon on my TBR :)

You're most welcome, Trish! The Once and Future King seems to divide opinions. I loved it, but more and more lately I've been hearing from people who didn't enjoy it at all. And I think I really should read the Mary Stewart series myself for this challenge!

Also, congrats on your awards! You deserve them all and more :D

*Joanna - LOL--I've learned that you only have to ask and book suggestions will be gladly given. Nymeth told me these are good for an intro.

*Lezlie - You're welcome. :) Hope you have a great day.

*Melissa - I'm adding the Merlin trilogy as a definite possibility! I've heard from others that they are quite good.

*Bermuda - ahhh. :) Glad to pass them on!

*Jeane - It gets harder and harder to pass them on. But enjoy!

*Joanne - I love that Zombie Chicken Award. I haven't read many Arthurian legends either, so I'm excited to get my hands dirty.

*Dar - Thank you. :) Hope you're having a great day, too.

*Anna - I must have just missed you this morning. Enjoy the awards.

*Nymeth - I have a bone to pick with you, young lady. You did not tell me Mists of Avalon was a chunkster!! :P But in all seriousness, thank you so much for the help. I think I'll be looking for the Merlin trilogy as well after hearing a few people mention them.

One of my husband's favorite books from school was The Once and Future King. Sounds like a fun challenge.

You are amazing! I am going to Utah around the ninth. Megan is getting married then... You should come around that time!

*Corinne - Ahhh, I'm glad I could make you smile. Have a great weekend.

*CB - Yay!! I'm not sure what the chickens would think of this award, but hopefully they'd approve. :)

*Charley - You're welcome! It's such a fun award I couldn't help but pass it on.

*Karen Beth - So glad Scott loved Once and Future King--I've heard kind of mixed things about it recently. This gives me hope!

*Michelle - Booo--I can't take off that weekend. It's looking like we'll be there the first weekend in May, but nothing is certain yet.

Congrats, Trish, on all your very much deserved awards! I hope you know how happy you make people! :) Me included!!!

I really tried not to join the Arthurian challenge...and I managed to hold out for like a whole day. ;) This is a totally new world to me. Ana was sweet enough to point me in the right direction, too. (Which for me meant the very basic beginnings.) You know, now that I think of it, I'm not sure I even posted a list yet...sheesh, when I can't even remember to do that, it might be a hint to stop joining, huh?

There are a couple of books on your challenge list that I really want to read, namely the Once and Future King, but I am refraining from joining another challenge right now.

Thanks for passing the award on to me. That was very kind of you. :-)

Oops. I was behind on my blog reading (as always it seems) and gave you the same award(s). You're just too popular! :)

Trish @ Love, Laughter, Insanity said...

*Debi - You make me happy too--in fact you've got me smiling right now! No--you haven't posted your list. Post it now so I can steal some of your selections! :P

*Jeanette - You're welcome. :) I won't badger you to join, but you can only read one book if you want--Becky's being really easy with the rules.

*Tanabata - Sheesh--I know all about being behind. This read-a-thon has me turning in circles and adding new blogs to my reader. I need to cut it out before I start drowning!!
