What's on Your Desk? (aka Picture Overload)

Happy Canada Day!

First and Foremost: Happy Canada Day!

Although I was born in the states and moved to Texas 19 years ago, Canada will always have a rather large part of my heart.

Second, Becky from One Nut Literature and Linda Ellen from Bambi Reads tagged me for the What's on your Desk Wednesday meme hosted by Sassy Brit.

So what's on my desk? Please please assure me your desk is messier than mine is!

Here's what you do:
1. Grab a camera and take a photo of your desk! Or anywhere you stack your books/TBR pile. And no tidying!
2. Add this photo to your blog. Tag at least 5 people! Come back here and leave a link back to your photo in the comments section. That's it.

Maggie the CatMaggie and Ms. Poppet (she's new and doesn't have a name yet--suggestions?)
Very Messy DeskBooks Books Books Books Books Books
List at least 5 BOOKISH things
*Um, books, books, and books. Mostly new/recent additions
*In the bottom picture you can see my book thong I've yet to use
*1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die
*Spiral to write down wishlist books
*Several more bookmarks not shown in pictures (mixed in with bills--didn't think you wanted to see my bills)

List at least 5 NON BOOK
things
*Maggie the cat (Meow)
*Texas A&M lamp (Whoop!)
*Gorilla pod (that pink and black thingy)
*Canadian Maple Syrup
*Cards and stationary
*Stamps!

What's on YOUR desk?

*It's taking 3-4 hours for my posts to load in Google Reader and my scheduled posting isn't working--any ideas why this is happening??

Ha! Peter just looked at the 4 giant stacks on our desk and asked, "How many of these are library books?" Answer: 2. (Insert innocent smile here.) ;-)

Maple syrup? Just in case? :-)

So lets get this right, one poppet, one cat, a HUGE stack of books, and MAPLE Syrup. hmmm I would love to work at your desk (sans the bills though, I've got enough of my own)! I love how RANDOM that is!

I love your pictures. Maggie looks so comfy on her, I mean your, desk. I want a gorilla pod. I also want City of Thieves.

I'm sorry, I just can't stop giggling over the maple syrup! Is that how you're celebrating Canada Day, with a quick swig? Ahhh, but I love your desk...so not neat and tidy and thus not making me feel bad about how not neat and tidy mine is.

Kitty! You have a kitty on your desk! *has love for the kitty* (Yes, I'm terrible. I think you should name the poppet Mrs. Spoon. After the character of the same name. ^-~)

And The Blind Assassin is somewhere on my TBR pile too! (It's big, so it goes in the back with all the other big books to make a nice even row to dump other books on.)

(My desk has my laptop on it, since you ask. ^-~) Hee! This is a fun thing. ^-^

Looks like you are in need of some bookshelves bad!!

LOL...cute post, Trish. My wife has that copy of Great Gatsby and I have that copy of White's Once and Future King. Have you read King yet? I'm going to start it later this year, hopefully. Along with Book of Merlyn.

I LOVE the stuff on your desk!!! Awesome books! Cat!!! Poppet!!!!1 It doesn't get better than that, does it? :D I forgot to participate in this again this week :( Hopefully next week I'll remember. My desk's contents are not nearly as awesome as yours, though.

The blogger thing is a bug that's affecting everyone...I don't know what to do other than wait until they ix it :/

*Lezlie - Well, most of those books I got used! That counts for something, right? And several of them have been passed around to friends (Great Gatsby, Blind Assassin are sitting there as recently returned books).

*Verbatim - Got the maple syrup as a gift for my husband (then boyfriend) when I visited Toronto probably 5 years ago. It never got used and somehow it ended up on my desk. Honestly I don’t know what else to do with it—not sure it’s good anymore, but I can’t bear to part with it.

*Michelle - Really, it’s random because I’m lazy. :) Most of that stuff could be put away, but it would require me to do yucky things ahead of time like cataloging the new books. Hate that! LOL.

*Bermuda - You would think it was her desk, huh? She’s up there 90% of the time that I’m at the computer. Book of Thieves is our July Book Club pick. And the gorilla pod is awesome!

*Debi - See note above to Verbatim on the maple syrup. Canadian maple syrup is the best, but this jar’s just for looks. I wish my desk was tidier, but my entire office is a wreck. I laugh when people tell me they picture me being highly organized. Organized only in my head. :P

*Shanra - Is this the first time you’re meeting Maggie? I guess she hasn’t made an appearance since the read-a-thon. I’ve actually read Blind Assassin and really recommend it—great book! And who is Mrs. Spoon?!? Wish I had a laptop, but I work faster on my desktop.

*Stephanie - I do NEED bookshelves! I’m using empty paper boxes as shelves, but even those are full. Pitiful!

*Paxton - I picked up Once and Future King and the other one for the Arthurian Challenge. Haven’t started either yet. One of these days. I keep buying books and then not reading them for months or even sometimes years!

*Nymeth - Very frustrated with blogger right now! I’m trying to be semi-organized and blogger is working against me. :P Lots of good things on the desk, but very messy. Gotta take some time to get organized! I hope you do this one—I’d love to see what’s on your desk.

You've got some fantastic books in those stacks, but I'd put Boy's Life on top. A great read.

Your desk looks just like mine, piles of books and a resident cat, who likes to lay across my keyboard whilst I write!

Love the pictures! Maggie is so pretty! Lots of books but that's never a bad thing. I have Boy's Life cause of someone I know-lol. Yahoooo for Canada Day!

Oh thanks for joining in! I love those pics - it's a fabulous well used (loved) desk!

Please pop over and add your link here! So we can all come back and visit your desk :)

I'm a bit late in responding as the month end is really busy for me.

Take care and thanks again for playing!

Ah yes, a cat is a wonderful desk accessory. When I'm not at my desk, my 2 cats want nothing to do with it. But as soon as I sit down... it's like they have radar.

How cute the cat looks! Thanks for reminding that I need to do this too! :)

God! look a the Numer of books :)

Lovely pics, I can look at stacks of books anytime. I have this meme all ready to posts in my drafts, but I don't have as many books on my desk :)

Happy Canada Day!!!

It could just be that I have a lousy memory, but my first reaction to any pictures with cats in it is "Kitty! Yay!" really. ^-~

Oh, dear. How to explain Mrs Spoon... It was a show I watched when I was a little girl. It was about this old lady who would become as tiny as a teaspoon and carried a golden one around on her back. *rummages on the net* Oh, English calls her differently. here. ^-^

Better yet, it says it's based on a book. *so amused, never knew this* I'm going to have to see if I can track the book down now. But anyway, your poppet reminded me a little of that character. We called her "Vrouwtje Theelepel" in Dutch, which more or less means "Mrs. Teaspoon", after the teaspoon she carries. ^-^

Happy Canada day!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this post! Your new Poppet is so cute next to Maggie! I love seeing all your pretty books too!

How do you pronounce "syrup" ??
A. surrup
B. seerup

You have a really pretty desk! I'm using my dearly-departed father's roll-top desk and, to be honest, things don't fit well. It's got a pull-out writing shelf and that's where my keyboard sits. The monitor takes up most of the rest of the space -- leaving about 6" on either side. I don't have any place to prop a book to type quotes, so there's always this strange balancing act going on when I review.

Oh, and the top is, of course, buried in books. Love your poppet and Maggie photo!!! Too cute!

Hahaha! I just noticed the maple syrup! We have one of those little tourist bottles, but it's in the kitchen. :) I forgot to mention that I have a little stuffed polar bear on my desk. He sits to the right of my monitor and he's my watch holder. I wrap my Ironman watches around his middle and just strap them on. Now, I never lose a watch!

I'll take your cat over the books (adorable); i love cats and books equally :)

Love this post, Trish!
BTW, why's the maple syrup sitting on your desk?! LOL. Ah...must be the Canada Day!!

Love the poppet, and the kitty too!! :D

*Debnance - I loved Boy's Life, too. It's actually there in the stack because I was about to take it to my dad for him to read.

*Scrap girl - Yes, usually Maggie hits the number keys and it drives me crazy when I see "+++++++++" :) I wouldn't have it any other way, though.

*Dar - I hope you enjoy Boy's Life, Dar--can't wait to hear what you think of it.

*Sassy Brit - Thanks for coming by--I'll definitely pop in and leave my link.

*Charley - Yup, Maggie is the same way. She's actually not here right now and it's amazing the space I have without her!

*Veens - I can't wait to see what you have on your desk! And the books are there because I've run out of shelf space. :(

*Violet Crush - I hope you'll do this one soon--I love looking at other people's spaces and books.

*Shanra - Too funny! I haven't read of this particular tale, but I'll definitely look it up. I'll call my poppet Miss Spoon--she's a youngster afterall. :)

*Laura - Yes, and can you see now that I am not the tidy person you thought I was? :P I think I pronounce it seerup but I'm not sure. You'll have to trick me into saying it. :)

*Bookfool - Ah yes, the maple syrup does belong in the kitchen, huh? I'm afraid to actually drink it--probably fermented. :) Sounds like you need a bigger desk!!

*Diane - If I had to choose between the books and Maggie, I'd probably choose Maggie too. :)

*Melody - Ah, the maple syrup. I bought it for my husband a few years ago when I was visiting Cananda and we never used it. Throughout the moves it just ended up back on my desk. I should toss it, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

I knew I'd love to see your desk! ;) We've had our cat in a kennel for over a year now (I know...gut wrenching) because we couldn't bring him to Hawaii. I'll be getting him out this fall and can't wait, so seeing your cat on your desk gave me a little stroke of nostalgia. Thanks for sharing!

Becca said...

I love seeing other people's book piles! Your cat is too cute, too. If I had a desk, I am sure my cat would be on it, too, except she'd be chewing on the covers of my books- a favorite pastime of hers for getting my attention.

Trish @ Love, Laughter, Insanity said...

*mjmbecky - I'm so sorry about your cat! I've had some times when Maggie wasn't living with me and it was so lonely. Hope the fall comes soon for you!

*Rebecca - Too funny about your cat chewing your book covers! Maggie doesn't do that, but she's currently swatting me with her tail--think she wants some attention!

Literary Feline said...

There is no better combination on a desk: books and a cat. :-) Both of my cats like to chew on the corners of my books. It's adorable, but not very good for the books. LOL

Wow! That's all I have to say about that except that Sarah Waters is on the shortlist for the Booker this year. I thought Fingersmith was wonderful and am hoping that her new book, Little Stranger, meets my expectations.

Cheers!
