BBAW Bookish Meme

Holy Crap! I've posted 4 days in a row. I usually hate doing this because then I feel like my book reviews get passed over, but unfortunately I'm guessing people are skipping over book reviews this week, so why not post again! It's BBAW after all. Although it wouldn't hurt my feelings if you did decide to read my review of The Lace Reader. Hmmm--sorry for the shameless plug, but I was so excited about the book that I'm getting our book club to read it next month so we can then go see the author in person!!

Back on topic: a bookish meme. We've been asked to keep our answers short, so I'll bite my tongue and show you just how concise I can be!

Do you snack while you read?
Ice cream
(edited note: caught in a lie...see comments)

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea horrify you?
Sometimes if neccesary

How do you keep your place while reading a book?
Bookmark

Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?
Both (mostly fiction)

Hard copy or audiobooks?
Hard copy (always)

Do you read to the end of chapters, or can you put a book down at any point?
Chapter breaks if possible

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away?
Nope!

What are you currently reading?
Yellowknife; Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

What is the last book you bought?
Hunger Games and Catching Fire

One book at a time or can you read more than one at a time?
Mostly one at a time

Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read?
Any time I can

Do you prefer series books or stand alone books?
Stand alone

Is there a specific book or author that you recommend over and over?
Margaret Atwood

How do you organize your books?
Read versus Unread (and then some)

How's that for concise? I'm feeling anxious not giving you longer answers, but I'll get over it.

Ok, so don't look at this picture and think I'm abusing my cat. Maggie has her own water--she just wanted mine! It was too funny to pass up. If I know how to write on the picture, it'd say something like "Iz thursty Mom!" See how Miss Spoon is there watching? Haha! I amuse myself.

Hooray for those who don't look up words!!!
I try to get my cats to do this. Instead they stick their kitty litter paws in my glass!

I look up all the words at the end; but it's starting to feel tedious so I don't know if I'm going to do it anymore.

My kitty does that, too! I have a few photos of the kitten with her entire head in a glass- she's too big to do that now- it sure looks funny!

I'm a monogamous reader too. The picture with your cat is too funny!

Your cat looks hilarious! It is a very cute picture. :)

I could never eat ice cream while I was reading, it's a two handed activity and I am messy! I have to read more of Margaret Atwood's work. I have it, but for some reason I'm not getting to it. And I love the picture of your cat - I've seen other ones do that and I just don't know why they like it! LOL.

Cute kitty! That almost makes me want to get one for myself. :)

I'm so glad you bought The Hunger Games and Catching Fire! Now you just need to read them. :D

I wonder how you could eat ice cream while reading? Lol.

Go to Picnik.com to write on your photos; it's free!

And I am so friggin' impressed with your conciseness, very nice.

That picture is too funny!

My cat loves(!) stealing water from my glass. If she can't reach the bottom, she knocks it off the table.

I just can't be brief!

I'm with you on reading "any time I can"

Trish -

Great answers. Concise is good. Eating while reading is tricky - eat the wrong thing and your book is going to suffer.

Chalk up another shared trait between our cats - Max will drink from the glass of water I have on my nightstand. I've taken to bottled water to keep him out of it.

*Everyone - Thanks for popping by! Ok, so maybe the ice cream is more for when I'm blogging...I guess it is hard to read a book and eat ice cream at the same time. But any time I can talk about ice cream I will. I might even eat it for dinner tonight!

And just so you know, Maggie keeps jumping on my desk, jumping off, jumping on, jumping off. I think she is saying "Mom! Get off the computer!"

Have a great day.

Well you made me laugh too:) I love that unequivocal 'Nope'.

Poor Miss Spoon looks very concerned.

Reading everyone's answers to the snck question is making me hungry!

christina said...

Trish I love your cat picture! Really. That is absolutely too cute.

I can't read while eating ice cream! :P

That's so cute of Maggie! And I love the expression of Miss Spoon, LOL.

Concise!

I loved AVM, but I never reviewed it. You bought YA!

I always look up unfamiliar words, (which is why Oscar Wao drove me crazy!). I figure the author took great care to pick just the right word, so I need to understand it to get the full experience of the book.

OMG Trish! I have been a horrible commenter all week, but when I saw that picture I just had to stop by and let you know that you had me laughing hysterically :p And I'm with you on being amazed at how much I've posted this week!!

wow, you can eat ice cream while reading? That would require too much control :)

Cute pic...

Veens said...

Ice Creammmmmm! What's your fav flavour?! :D
I think mine is Vanilla. after which I like Mango [ there is this ice cream i always eat with is Vanilla on the inside and mango outside] :D i like ice candy also.... grrr! STOP! no talk of ice creams :( we are on DIET :D

that was super concise! I have a paragraph answer for a few question ')

P.S. At first glance (without my glasses on), I thought your cat was in the *blender* and was really disturbed!

Debi said...

OMGosh, Trish, that picture of Maggie just totally cracks me up!! Lucky always thinks my water is better than his own, too. Or the water in the tub after someone showers. Or the water in the plants. Or...yeah, you get the picture.

Laura said...

I love your own LOL Cat picture! Maggie's face could NOT look funnier!

I have a hard time eating ice cream while reading, because I don't have enough hands to hold the book, the bowl, and the spoon. Even if I eat at a table, I don't know where to put book, and where to put the bowl...:) So if I snack when I read, I always eat small one-handed things, such as Skittles or pretzels. (So interesting, huh?)

Love that picture!

I love Margaret Atwood, too. Have you read The Children's Book yet? We'll have to talk about it some day; I'm so excited she has a new release!

Natasha @ Maw Books said...

I eat ice cream while I'm reading! All the time. It's doable!!

Love the pic!! I agree about Margaret Atwood. Her books are so unique.

I'm a little behind, but I do plan to read your book review of The Lace Reader. :-)

It's been fun reading everyone's responses to the meme. You did a great job in the concise department.

You know, Trish, you technically could eat ice cream one handed if you eat it in a cone. I've eaten ice cream while reading. More often though, like you, I do it while blogging. :-)

LOL Love the photo of Maggie. Parker loves to stick his head in my husband's tea glass periodically, so I can relate.

*Everyone - It makes me incredibly anxious that I can't respond to you all individually. Ahhhh *pulls out hair* (and wonders if anyone is subscribed to follow up comments anyway!).

A few notes:

*Jill/Softdrink, Miss Spoon IS concerned

*Verbatim, Yes Oscar Wao drove my book club crazy, too!

*Veens, favorite flavor is chocochip cookie dough. Mango sounds great!

*Bellezza, I haven't read The Children's Book yet. :( Haven't read Atwood since last year!

*Lit Feline, GREAT point about the cone...must invest in some of those!

Thanks again guys for compliments to Maggie. If she could blush I'm sure she would.
