Non-Fiction Five Challenge Thank You

I want to give everyone who participated in the 2009 Non-Fiction Five Challenge a big THANK YOU. With Mr. Linky going down in the middle of the challenge I'm not sure exactly how many people signed up, but there were a lot of you. Even if you didn't finish, give yourself a big pat on the back for reading at least some Non-Fiction.

If you're still writing reviews for books finished during the challenge or a wrap-up post, you can link your posts at the September Mister Linky. And don't feel bad--even as the hostess I still haven't written all my reviews. Oops!

In the comments, tell us what your favorite Non-Fiction read was! Mine was Maus. Hands down.

And if you have any suggestions for next year, please let me know--for example, would you like to see NFF have its own blog? More participant participation? More hostess attention? I know, I suck. Goal for 2010 to be more interactive.

THANKS AGAIN for making NFF such a successful challenge!!

Oh, and I added the widget below. Apparently it takes time to be "accurate." Is it distracting?

It makes me feel better that someone else is still working on their reviews too. :) As for the challenge - don't change a thing. I thought it was great as it was.

My favorite book? My Homemade Life by Molly Wizenberg - great writing, great stories, and great recipes.

Thanks for hosting Trish. I read more non-fic this year since college! Maus was my fav too. Still got to get to Lost City of Z.

Thanks for hosting this Trish. I did complete it but wasn't very good with the MR Linky part LOL

Thanks for hosting! I don't know that I have a favorite book because they were all good in very different ways. But I'd probably pick (if I had to!) Clara's War by Clara Kramer.

My favorite was my geography book about Yemen, with Mind Rain coming in as a close second. Thanks for hosting, Trish. You did great, even with Mr. Linky going down.

(as for the widget, I had it for awhile on my blog and found I had a lot of bugging quirky things happening like pictures not loading properly, so after a month I took it down. However, most people seem to like it.)

So, this is why I gave up on challenges... I'm lousy at them.

I managed about 3.5 books and didn't post links to my reviews...

But, I want to thank you for the push, Trish. You did manage to get me to pull The Day The Sun Rose Twice off my shelf and I found it fascinating.

If I fail Bellezza's challenge I'll have to give up. How hard can it be to read one book??

Well, I did finish in time, but only because I cheated - during the last few days I put aside the book I was reading and chose a 90-page one instead! The one I liked best was the one I am still reading: a travel guide about the Azores (Bradt travel guides).
What I would like to see next year? A bigger participation and interaction on MY part! That's where I really come short! Don't worry Trish, you were a great host!

I missed this challenge last time. Hope to join the next one! Suggestion: How about less number of books required? :) Or at least some options to pick the less pressing numbers. 5 non-fictions in 5 months is hard!

I absolutely loved this challenge. I want an option for more books too next time. I read more non fiction because of your challenge than I ever normally do. So more please. Thanks again for running a fabulous challenge.

*Brittany - I've heard such great things about Homemade Life--glad you enjoyed it. And don't stress about the reviews.

*Lula - Isn't Maus fantastic? Lost City of Z is an interesting one--still having troubles imagining Brad Pitt in the role.

*Diane - Lots and lots of people don't leave their links, so don't feel bad. Congrats on finishing, though!

*Becky - I've been hearing great things about Clara's War--I know Joy just read it and really liked it. Hope you'll join again next year!

*Amanda - I really want to do a complete blog overhaul but don't know where to start. I kind of want to get rid of my second sidebar and do horizontal tabs but I'm not sure how. I need a programmer husband!! :P

*CJ - Don't get down on yourself! 3.5 is still great, especially since you enjoyed a book you had been somewhat avoiding.

*Scribacchina - LOL--I don't think that's cheating. I used two graphic novels for the challenge, so I'm kind of in the same boat. :) Hope you see you again next year.

*Mee - But then I'd have to change the name from Non-Fiction Five to something else! Maybe add some memoirs next time? I find they read more like fiction.

*Viv - Yay! I'm so glad you enjoyed the challenge so much. I probably won't change the amount of books, but of course you're always welcome to read more!

YAY!!! This is one of the few challenges I actually finished! Even read more than I needed to. :D Not sure which was my favorite...luckily, I honestly enjoyed them all. And they were all so very different from one another. If pressed, I'd maybe say Normal by Amy Bloom.
Thanks for hosting it, Trish! Truly one of my favorite challenges. :D

I finished this challenge too, but like other never left my links!

I loved the challenge though and am looking forward to the next one!

Thanks for hosting this Trish! I love non-fiction anyway, but it was a good excuse to think more about what I was reading. Of the 5 books I read, 4 were really good. My favorite was Golden Boy: Memories of a Hong Kong Childhood. That book was excellent!

It's probably bad that I have no idea if I have all my reviews written or not! I finished, though... I suppose I will consider that the important thing.

Thanks for hosting! I enjoyed all the books I read, but my favourite was probably Virgin by Hanne Blank. As for a challenge blog, I notice that when there's one I'm much more likely to remember to go there and add my link to the Mr Linky, so I'm going to say no :P

(Oh, and I don't find that blogger widget distracting, though I can't say I ever pay enough attention to actually click the links either :P)

I can't decide which of the books I read was my favorite. They were all good! I think it might be Heyerdahl's The Ra Expeditions, or Ice Bound. It's a wonderful challenge! I'll participate again if you do it next year.

*Debi - Yay!! Isn't that fantastic. :) How did Rich end up doing with it??

*Melissa - I'm guilty of being bad at leaving links as well. Wish there was a better solution. Congrats on finishing.

*Heather - I'm so glad you enjoyed the challenge! I'll definitely be on the look out for Golden Boy.

*Kailana - LOL--no worries about the reviews. What I've learned through hosting is that it's impossible to know who did what and no one else is really paying attention either. :) Congrats on finishing!

*Nymeth - I loved your review for Virgin and immediately put it on my wishlist. Not sure about the widget yet, but like you I always click over and so don't usually see them anyway.

Jeane - I'll consider it a good thing that you couldn't pick a favorite! :) So glad you joined us for the challenge.

I haven't been very good about adding my links to the Mr. Linky. I can't remember now if I've even added any! Oops. I still have one review to write but I did finish. Yay me! And I'll have a wrap-up post up this week.

Thanks so much for hosting Trish. I always seem to need a virtual kick in the butt to read NF, which is silly since I usually enjoy once I set myself to actually reading it. But anyway, thank you! :)

As for Mee's suggestion of less books, how about keeping it Non-Fiction Five to read 5 books but over a longer period of time? Course that would mean you'd have to host longer and it doesn't have the same "five books in five months" ring to it. Either way count me in next year.

I missed this one because I've only discovered your blog right about now (after seeing your fitness challenge). Well, I don't have to worry anymore because you're now on my Google Reader. :D

Next year lets do a ritual sacrifice to Mr. Linky so it doesn't go down...I'm sure there's a book that details that somewhere...
