Read-a-thon: Hours 23-24 and End of Event Meme

UPDATE FOR HOURS 23&24

Pages: 160 (Fun Home)
Time: 65 minutes

TOTALS:
1005 pages read (105 over goal)
766 minutes/12.76 hours reading (2.25 under goal)
150 minutes/2.5 hours blogging (includes twitter)
370 minutes/6 hours cheerleading (2 over goal)
17 mini-challenges
300+ comments (stopped counting when I stopped reading)
2 caffeine beverages
3.5 books (.5 under goal)
2 prizes won (Woohoo!
3 vlogs
1 happy ending football game (Texas A&M v Tech)

I'm such a faker:

1. Which hour was most daunting for you?
20 was the hardest and when I stopped reading to cheer for 2 hours.

2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
All! Especially Frankie Landau-Banks and Fun Home

3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
I really liked the "dead hour" cheer squad--could fine tune for next year! Also, have mini-challenge hosts put ending times in the readathon hours rather than their time zones.

4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
Everything was so smooth this year!

5. How many books did you read?
I read 3 and a half and chapters of 4 others. Kind of had a tough time in the middle picking a book!

6. What were the names of the books you read?
Boy in the Striped Pajamas; The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks; Ethan Frome; Fun Home (half)

7. Which book did you enjoy most?
The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks

8. Which did you enjoy least?
None--but About a Boy, Animal Husbandry and Hunger Games were ones I abandoned temporarily

9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
Pre-write some really fun cheers. Also with so many participants try to figure out a system of how to tackle as many as possible

10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?
Um, VERY LIKELY! I'll do it the same way I did this time--mostly reader with heavy emphasis on cheering.

Can't wait until April!!

Yeah, I think I'm going to concentrate more on reading next time t han cheering. I read a whole lot less hours than I wanted, but because of all my GNs, I read a lot more pages than I was expecting...

I can't believe you stayed up for so long. I will try to follow your example next year. You definitely have a knack for rhyming cheers. The one you wrote on my post was so awesome. Thanks Trish:)

LOL @ that pic! I loved Fun Home when I read it a few months ago! Congrats on all your reading and cheering-you did so much!!! :) And yes, there shall definitely be cheerleading fine-tuning next time, now that I know the cheerleaders are fine with a more structured approach!

Love the pic. Well done on doing so well. Go and have a good sleep now.

APPLAUSE APPLAUSE! I'm standing on my chair and praising your awesome accomplishments! I really liked seeing your talented poems everywhere and now I see you broke the hallowed 1000 page mark. I salute you. Hang your photo in the Cheerleading Hall of Fame. or should it be a portrait? I kinda like the one you've posted here, actually. :) Keep some sleep, sweet dreams!

Way to go!! You were awesome!
I didn't manage to reach 1000 pages this time but that just means I'll try again next time. I'm already looking forward to April too!

Wished I could have joined you all, but I had other commitments this weekend. I'll look forward to your review of Fun Home, especially, as I just bought that book for my son's Graphic Novels class at UC Davis. You all worked very hard, obviously -- give yourselves a pat on the back! (P.S. UC Davis, my alma mater, are Aggies, too, although no one cares much about our Div. II football team!)

I'll cheer with you anytime!!

Woo hoo, Trish! Way to go!

Ethan Frome is one of my FAVORITE American novels! I'm actually writing on it for my film adaptation qualifying exams. :) It's SO good.

Congratulations on completing the read-a-thon, Trish. It sounds like you had a lot of fun both cheering and reading. You did an amazing job on both counts.

Hee! I've been so eager to comment on your post I've opened it twice and have forgotten how to spell. (Thankfully, I catch it before that. ^-~)

*huggles* It should be criminal how cute you are...

And only two caffeinated drinks? I was imagining everyone's intake would be much higher, but... Apparently not. ^-^

Congratulations on the totals, hun!

I can't believe how long it took me to fall asleep this morning. I was still to wound up to relax. Or it could have been the fact that I had 5 caffeine based beverages to your 2!

You did so awesome.....congrads! I was happy to see your wins :)
I completely forgot about this...next year or if there is another one.

Congrads again,

Trish *hugs* for all the hard work! And yay for all the progress you did! I was only cheering so little but still got so little reading done, lol.

Lisa said...

Tip of the hat to you! You really accomplished a lot in 24 hours. I struggled to get 800 pages, didn't get any mini-challenges done and hardly got to check in with anyone as the day went on. And you even had time for football!

Belle said...

Great wrap-up post! I can't imagine being a reader AND cheerleader too! Good work. And I love the pic, faker you or not!!

Bookfool said...

Ohmygosh, I just looked at all your pictures and watched you dancing with the unopened Mt. Dew and saw you with your Maggie cutout and your real Maggie! Thanks for the laughs. You did fantastic! Frankie Landau is on my wish list, but I think I'm way the heck down there on the list, so it might take a while to get a copy. I should have bought it, yesterday. I never think to take a list with me when I go to Borders with an eye to spending money!

P/S: You fake it so well. LOL!

I cannot believe all of the reading that happened during that 24 hours! This is great inspiration and I hope to join in next time.

You did great. I had a blast too. Next time, I'm hoping to have my own schedule a little better planned.

Good job!! I hope to make it a little farther and get a little more reading done in April =)

*Everyone:

Thank you so much for all of your encouraging comments throughout the event and here on this wrap up. The readathon was, of course, an absolute blast but it wouldn't be as fun without all of you.

Although I'm not a model of productivity (see Eva for that), my biggest tip to readers who are wanting to do more--organize your time! I keep a handy spreadsheet that tallies everything that I've done and helps keep me on track. Keeping an eye on the clock is always helpful as those minutes tick by faster during the 'thon (I know it's not possible, but they do!!).

Until April... :) And thanks again for the support and the laughs.

Looks like you were very successful! Great job :)

Very impressive stats, Trish! I can't believe how many hours you were able to read with all the cheering you did. AND 17 mini-challenges??!! That is crazy! I'm so happy you won prizes this time too. I'll have to read through your posts and see what you won and all the mini-challenges you joined. I'm sorry I missed it, but it looks like it was really great!

The photo is classic! I think that is how we all felt at the end!

You did so much! I couldn't handle reading and cheerleading so I'm very impressed. Thank you for stopping by to cheer me on.

I hope to do it again too!
