7 + 7 = 14 Things About Me AND a Video (of me)

RANDOM THINGS ABOUT ME! (aka Trish Overload)

Ok, Ok, I hear you tags! Well, I read your tags. I procrastinate. I don't know why. But since I'm reading Emma and won't be blogging about much else in the next few days, I finally have some quiet time to catch up. And instead of doing the list thing for the 7 random personal things, I made this little video. Yes, very scary. :P I'm getting a big giant pit in my stomach thinking about hitting that "publish post" button. I don't know why I'm so nervous!! LOL.

*note of clarification--shooting was during target practice. My husband, brother-in-law, and father-in-law participated. It was very safe--no animals around. :) Not a big fan of firearms.

And then the seven random book things:
1. Even though I have gone by Trish for 10 years, I still inscribe my "read" books with Tricia.

2. I got my library card revoked when I was in high school because of a book I failed to return (Joy Luck Club) and haven't gone back since except in college.

3. I keep multiple spreadsheets of the books I own and have read. Not sure why I don't consolidate.

4. I get to work 30 minutes early so that I can read in my car before work. I also do this to dodge rush-hour traffic, but my day just doesn't start right if I don't have those 30 minutes. Sometimes it's the only time of the day I get to read.

5. I collect copies of Wuthering Heights as it is my favorite (yes, I know...gag...).

6. I could talk about books 24/7, but since I can be a little overbearing when it comes to reading, I rarely talk about books/reading/blogging with non-readers.

7. I do this obsessive thing where I figure out when I want to finish a book I'm reading, divide the number of pages by how many days that is and try to read that many pages a day. Sometimes I read more, sometimes less, but it seems to keep me on track.

In case you're curious about the other memes I did pertaining to this, here is a short synopsis. Man--soon there won't be anything left to know!!

Six Random Things:
1. Texan but lived in Canada when little (born in Utah)
2. My husband was my next-door-neighbor when we met
3. Not good English student in high school--didn't even read assigned reading!
4. Aggie through and through, but Guns Up Red Raiders!
5. Bridget Jones is my hero(ine)
6. Two pets: Maggie (the cat) and Lexi (the dog)

Six Quirky Things:
1. Sing randomly, especially to Scott, Maggie, and food
2. Love musicals--listen to them at work!
3. Must have covers on while I sleep; one foot out is OK
4. Freshly made bed one of my favorite things
5. Deathly afraid of spiders--yes Bookfool--I know how ridiculous that is!!
6. Love love love food. LOVE food. :)

End of Trish Overload.

LOVE IT!!! To tell you the truth I have been toying with the idea of starting to do a short video either weekly or monthly. I'm coming up on my one year mark and I want to shake it up a bit and breath new life into my blog. So brave! I loved seeing you!

Also, I played Bloody Mary and while I'm not as scared as you, I do find myself thinking about it every once in a while if I'm in a dark room with a mirror.

Amanda said...

How fun Trish! I like the video - it's like I get to see the person I have conversations with in the comments section sometime. :)

I'm a hair cameleon (sp), too.

And even though everyone except my blood relatives call me Amanda, I still think of myself as Mandy, which is what my parents, siblings, grandparents, cousins, etc called me growing up (and still do). So I understand your Tricia thing.

Bookfool said...

That was fun!!! You do enunciate beautifully. What's Bloody Mary? I've never heard of it.

Oh, hahaha, yes . . . silly Bookfool is so over that spider thing, but I do understand. I was there, once. I'm not afraid of snakes, either. In fact, I like to get up close to them and then look up their markings, but one time I did that and realized, "Oh, hey, that one's venomous. And, his head is kind of copper-colored . . . and -- ack!" That was a moment. Still, I just walked away, not terrified or anything, even though I knew I'd just walked up to a copperhead.

But, ask me to light a match. I'm afraid of being burned because I got a few little whoppers as a youngster (set a hot woodburning pen down on my thumb, as a child -- owwwwww!) so we all have our fears. :)

Trixie said...

Trish - this is awesome! Great to learn more about you. I've never heard of Bloody Mary either - probably best as it would likely freak me out about mirrors in the dark. I tend to be superstitious, afraid of heights, and that sort of thing. Bugs aren't so bad, but I hate coming into a dark house by myself.

gautami tripathy said...

That was fun. Now you inspire me to do something similar!

*Natasha - I'm still a little shaky from the video--I get really nervous! :) I like the idea of the video--might do it the next read-a-thon if I'm not too strung out and tired looking. :P

*Amanda - Ugh...hair. If I could get away with shaving my head I totally would! The video was scary, but I figure that's me--like it or not.

*Bookfool - People always ask me where I'm from--a lot of people can recognize that I'm from the north even though I've lived in Texas for 18 years. The spiders is all a mind thing, I know. But they are just so darn freaky!! Good for you and the snake. Much braver than I would have been! You should see me hopping around the fields at my in-laws for fear that a rattlesnake will get me. :) (see below about Bloody Mary)

*Trixie - I'm sorry it took so long to post, but hopefully this makes up for it. Bloody Mary--not really sure what it is except you chant Bloody Mary Bloody Mary Bloody Mary in front of a dark mirror and see what you see...silly children's games but my cousins and I would get really frightened!

*Gautami - Can't wait to see what you do!!

Heather J. @ TLC Book Tours said...

I LOVED getting to see you - how fun! and on your book things I completely agree with #5 (LOVE that book) and #6 (though I try - unsuccessfully - to hold my tongue)

Anonymous said...

the video was super cool.. i suddenly have a face and a voice to go with your posts and it just makes the posts so much more personal!:) totally enjoyed watching you!:) btw, i am totally scared of the dark and mirrors in the evening as well!:) glad to have some company!

Trixie said...

Hey Trish - no worries about how long it took. If this is the awesome post we get, it was worth the wait!! Too cool. :)
Bloody Mary sounds totally freaky. I remember in middle school getting freaked out and having to leave the room at a slumber party when the other girls were doing the seance thing where you chant "Light as a feather, stiff as a board" while you try to lift one person up.

Suey said...

Very fun! Great job! :)

Melody said...

Trish, that was fun! You did great! I cannot imagine myself doing it! I'll get tongue-tied and will talk all the wrong things, LOL. I really enjoyed it, thanks for sharing! :)

You know, I haven't read Wuthering Heights despite all the great reviews I read and heard... I really should look for this book! ;)

Trish @ Love, Laughter, Insanity said...

*Heather - Glad someone else out there likes Wuthering Heights--I was beginning to think I was the only one! ;)

*Ramya - It's funny because I feel like I "know" some of you on some level, but I can't ever tell how much of *me* is leaking out from my posts--especially since I don't do a whole lot of non-book posts. I figured this was a way to break down one of those barriers. But it is very scary!!

*Trixie - We used to do Light as a feather stiff as a board also! I have a sneaking suspicious that what goes on at one girl's slumber party is probably going on everywhere--the truth or dare, freezing bras. LOL

*Suey - Thanks! Glad you could come by.

*Melody - Well, it took about 10 tries to finally get it right or to be able to do it without dying laughing. :) And there are a couple of things that I wish I could edit it...especially the part about not telling my husband what I think about his village...silly. I was pretty nervous and a little shaky, but oh well.

Wuthering Heights is one of those books that people either love or hate. I love it, but I wonder if maybe its because I did my senior paper on it for high school. I tend to grow fonder of books if I research and write about them. If you do pick it up, I hope you like it!

Your video is great! I have to have covers on when I sleep, too, and I like them up to my neck.

Jeanette said...

Fun post! The video was great! I read a blog that does video reviews every now and then. I've thought about it but don't know if I have the nerve. I do have some video of my kids talking about books that I should post.
It is crazy how many times I said "me too!" while reading this. Like 2,3,4 and 6 on the quirky things.
And number 7 on the random book things-I do the same thing. I look at a book, decide how quickly I want or think I can read it and figure out how many pages a day I need to read to meet my goal.

Ashlee and Shane said...

Hey! I got the book yesterday! Thanks so much! I am excited to read it! Now, i need to go back up and watch your video and read this post! :)

Thoughts of Joy said...

Oh my goodness! This was GREAT! I loved seeing and hearing you. Fun stuff! Thanks for sharing, Trish.

Veronica said...

I read "Wuthering Heights" for the first time this year and though I really did not like it, I do understand collecting copies of your favorite book. I have 7 copies of "Treasure Island" and 3 different movie versions.

Debi said...

Trish, that was just the cutest darn thing ever!

And no gags here...I love Wuthering Heights. Well, at least I did when I read it in high school. Probably time to read it again...

Nope, no such thing as Trish overload!

Trish @ Love, Laughter, Insanity said...

*Bermuda - Up to the neck! :) I usually have mine pretty pulled up also--I think it stems from it being some sort of protection/security thing when I was little. Like I said, I am a scaredy cat!

*Jeanette - You should totally post your kids talking about books--how fun! And crazy about you counting your pages also--I thought I was the only nut. :P

*Ashlee - So glad you got the book! The video is kind of weird as I'm sure you'll notice, but I guess it's been like 8 years since we've seen each other!

*Joy - Glad you enjoyed it--looking back at the video it does seem really awkward, but oh well...that's basically me (I don't think I usually make those funny faces, though!). :)

*Veronica - Wow that is a lot of copies of Treasure Island!! I haven't read that one but I would like to one day.

Trish @ Love, Laughter, Insanity said...

*Debi - We must have commented at the same time because I missed you! I'm thinking about doing video posts for the next read-a-thon instead of the other updates. Kind of fun to mix it up and I'm hoping next time (if there is one), I won't be so nervous and awkward. :) Of course, I don't know how it wouldn't be awkward to be staring/talking into a camera! Glad you liked WH also! It seems to be pretty low on a lot of people's lists. :P

Lisa said...

That was the best thing EVER!

My sister-in-law says Din't and all those others. She's the only (other) person I know who does that. I apparently say "greezy" instead of "greasy".

I have never read Wuthering Heights. I should.

Anonymous said...

i know what you mean.. i sometime wonder what all of you think of me.. i try not to write about non book things but thanks to my overly garrulous nature, i don't always stick to it..:) but reading this about you (and watching you) sure has been fun!:)

Ana S. said...

I LOVE the video, Trish! You're so adorable :D Btw, I can't tell a difference between the two ways you said "parenthesis", but that's probably because I don't have the same ability to differentiate sounds in English as native speakers. And if this is the weirdest thing you've ever done, well, don't worry, it's not that weird :P

As for the bookish things, I set the alarm clock one hour earlier than I technically have to each morning so that I can get some reading time. I definitely could talk about books all day too, and I divide a book's pages by the number of days I want to take to finish it too! More often than not I set my goal too high, though, and I end up feeling frustrated that I didn't read as much as I wanted to.

samantha.1020 said...

You don't go to the library?!?! Aack! LOL! On the other hand I like to get to work early to read as well...thought I was the only one that sat in my car reading :)

Trish @ Love, Laughter, Insanity said...

*Lisa - Glad you liked. :) I didn't notice that I said "din't" until someone pointed it out a few years ago. And my coworkers get a real kick at the whole "parentases" thing--but they make fun of me for everything. :P I love Wuthering Heights, but it is dark!

*Ramya - We think you are awesome! :) I used to stick more to the book things on my blog (and still do), but as I get to know people more and more--especially through comments--I find myself getting a little more personal. I think of you guys as friends--even though there is that wide gap.

*Nymeth - Thank you... When I say parentheses (I don't use the singular often, so not sure if I say it differently), I don't pronounce the "th" sound. It is more of a "ta" sound. It's pretty subtle. I admire you for being able to get up early to read. I do blog a little bit before I hop in the shower, but don't usually pick up my book until I get to work. Wish I could get up earlier!! And glad someone else sets page goals! I usually make them for a week, and with an average 350 page book it isn't that much a day...usually 30-50 pages. Today I won't meet my goal of 33 pages, though. :(

*Samantha - Nope, don't use the library. I have enough books at the house to keep me occupied for years, but I still shop at used sales. I like the idea of having the book in my possession for always--none of this return in 3 weeks stuff. :P And yay for car readers! I haven't seen any others but I'm glad I'm not the only one!

i think u shud do more of it :) and i would do it :) :D :D YAH! but lemme first get my videocam LOL!

:D Mebbe some day soon ;)

Laura said...

There are SO many things I could comment on this post, but I'll try to keep it to a minimum! :) The whole time I was watching your fun little video, I kept wondering what kind of "Trish hands" you were doing. Singing to food and pets is a sign of normalcy to me! ParenTHesis! I think pronouncing words differently makes people interesting, so even though we give you a hard time about it, it's only because we like you so much! :)

Trish @ Love, Laughter, Insanity said...

*Veens - Actually I don't have a video camera or webcam either! My regular camera has a video setting on it so I used that. Actually much easier since I'm technologically challenged. I hope you do a video as well--I would love to "meet" all of you!

*Laura - Oh dear, I wondered what you would say. :P I defintely did "Trish Hands" when I was talking about the lights and I was moving my hands while talking but you can't see much in the video. What can I say? I guess I have those habits that are really "Trish". And you have things that are definitely "Laura." Like saying you Reeeeeeeally like something or Hhhhhate something. Haha! By the way, we miss you....hope you don't get picked on Monday. And can't wait to hear about your FABULOUS trip!!!

Amanda said...

Have I told you lately HOW MUCH I MISS YOU!!!!!!?!?! I wanted to cry during your video! I miss you girl!!!!

I have witnessed many of your so called "Social akwardness" moments. They were so much fun!!!! You were so fun in college and I am SO grateful that we have stayed in contact! You are a gem!

You look great by the way. Miss ya!

bethany (dreadlock girl) said...

LOOK AT YOU!!! you are so cute :) we all say some words strange!!

Yay, it was nice to "SEE" you!!

Trish @ Love, Laughter, Insanity said...

*Amanda - I miss you too, lady!! We'll have to figure out some time when we can get together, especially so I can see precious little Hannah! And yes, socially awkward to the extreme. I'm actually better than I used to be but I still have my moments. :P

*Bethany - What can I say? You gave me the courage and push to do the video! Even though it was terrifying to do the video it was a lot of fun. Do you have particular words that you say a little funny? Bury and burial are other ones that I say a little differently--I say them like the burr you would get from walking through the field instead of bary and barial...I've never understood where that "u" sound went!

Corinne said...

So, we are ditto on #4 and #7 of your book things :) You're so great!

Kim L said...

Haha, loved your video. So where are you from with your accent? :-)

Way to show everyone how to use a shotgun! That's awesome. I also disapprove of guns and animals in the same scenario

Petunia said...

I almost LOLed at your being afraid of mirrors. I had the same experience. And I wrote about it here:
http://educatingpetunia.blogspot.com/2007/09/review-eyes.html

Oh the cruel things kids do to each other.

Anonymous said...

Jeez! I will!!u look sooo cute :-)

Trish @ Love, Laughter, Insanity said...

*Corinne - Yay--another page counter and car reader! Glad to have company. :)

*Kim - I lived in Toronto from age 2-9 and then moved to Texas. I have heard that your accent forms by the age of 8, but I've lost a lot of the northern and mixed in a lot of southern. But people who don't know me will ask me if I'm from the north--I didn't even realize I had a weird accent until people kept pointing it out. I think its very neutral...

And the gun was actually a handgun--I didn't mean to say shotgun and was too tired of starting the video over. :P I don't think I could shoot a shotgun...to scary!! I recently shot a bow and arrow for the first time and think I like that better than the handguns (and I still outshot everyone!). My husband's family is a bunch of rednecks. Haha!!

*Petunia - I'll have to pop over and see! I used to play Bloody Mary with my cousins when we were little and we would get SO freaked out!!

*Veens - Good, I'm glad. :) LOL!!

Bellezza said...

Trish! You were so brave to tape yourself! I had to videotape my teaching for National Board Certification, and it was quite a humbling experience. (Who was that person doing all the talking? ME?)
It made me smile to hear your voice, we actually pronounce our vowels EXACTLY the same way; I can't define it either, but in many ways I felt like I was listening to my own self talk. No wonder we get along so well! Thanks for sharing about yourself; you did a great job.

Michelle said...

Thanks for the video Trish! I am so glad you did that! You look so much like your mother these days (of course a good thing, your mother is gorgeous!). I have said earlier, mirrors freak me out too because of Bloody Mary, thanks to your mom. As far as the singing goes, I was singing the "nose" song to emmory and she was cracking up!

Trish @ Love, Laughter, Insanity said...

*Bellezza - Back when I taught freshman comp we had to do a couple of videos and I always felt so silly! As I do looking back at this one. ;) Was a video of you teaching one of the requirements to receive certification?

I don't think I talk funny, but people do comment on it a lot. :) I guess maybe I say my vowels as a northerner does? You grew up in northern IL, right?

*Michelle - I think I talk *exactly* like my mom--maybe not in the video because I was a little weird (it is awkward taping yourself!!), but sometimes I'll hear voicemail messages of me and not be able to tell if it is me talking or her! I still don't see the resemblance between me and her--I think Kim looks a lot like Mom and I think Brooke looks a lot like Aunt Debi (don't tell Brooke I said that!!). :)

Do you remember at your old old house when we played Bloody Mary? I can remember being on the beds and being scared out of my mind. Man, we must have been young!! And what the heck is the "nose" song?

Literary Feline said...

I could have recorded your #1 personal things. That's so me! Even the silly part. :-)

I remember playing Bloody Mary as a child. It didn't do anything for my fear of the dark back then.

I have a couple of different spreadsheets for my lists of books too, Trish. There's just something about book lists that I find irresistable--even in keeping multiples of my own.

I used to be the same way about getting to work early to read, but since I have to be at work so early now, sleeping as long as I possibly can before I have to force myself out of bed has won out. I can't go to sleep without reading a little before bedtime--and so that's usually when I am able to fit my reading in during the week.

I enjoyed your video and reading your lists!

Joanne ♦ The Book Zombie said...

That was cool! You did a fantastic job with your vid, doesn't look like you were nervous at all.

I love that you have multiple spreadsheets - I do that with notepads (I'm a bit of a list-maker) :)

Trish @ Love, Laughter, Insanity said...

*Lit Feline - Silliness is great! The getting to work early part is also to beat out traffic. If I leave even 15 minutes later from my house, I sit in at least 30 more minutes of traffic! I only live about 25 miles from work, but it takes me a good hour to and from each day. If not for that, I'm not sure if I could drag my butt out of bed any earlier either!!

*Joanne - Thank you--the video is a little forced, but I don't think having just "met" me you can tell.

I love lists, too! Do you make lists just for books or for other things as well?

Anonymous said...

there's an award waiting for you in my blog. come by to pick it up!:)

valentina said...

That was really cool!i admire your courage I don't think I could ever do it! and I'm looking forward to the next Read-a-thon now also for your video update!that shud be fun:) and maybe quicker for u as well:P

Once upon a time *boop boop*, I had a great big nose *boop boop*, and then one day a yanked it off and ran over it with my bike *boop boop*......

Bloody Mary still to this day freaks me out! You know we are related to her in some fashion don't you?

Anna said...

I really enjoyed this post!! I'd be too scared to even attempt a video, so you get a big round of applause from me!

At least your library card was revoked and you weren't arrested for some ridiculously small fine. I heard that story not too long ago, but I can't remember where.

--Anna
Diary of an Eccentric

Trish @ Love, Laughter, Insanity said...

*Ramya - Thank you! :)

*Valentina - Thanks for popping by--I was really nervous about the video and now some of my coworkers have seen it and it's just plain embarrassing. :P

*Michelle - Oh my gosh, that sounds so familiar, but I can't place it!! Boo. I do know that there is some sort of line that goes back through then, but I can't remember how it all works. We'll have to bug grandma about it.

*Anna - Once the video was done, it wasn't so bad. You should try one. :P Can't believe someone was arrested for not returning books/paying fines!! Part of the reason why I got my card revoked was because of the fine, but that was 10 years ago and the details are foggy. Can only remember that it was The Joy Luck Club, which I still haven't entirely read.

How cool are you?!?!?! A video!!

I'm still thinking of doing a play reading challenge. I may get around to setting up a site for it this week. I'm thinking it will start in the new year.

Darcie said...

Loved the video!! It's so nice to put a face and a voice with the words you write. I also liked that you combined the other Mimes together so we get a bigger picture!!

I also LOVE a fresh made bed!! Esp if the sheets are fresh out of the dryer! And when under a deadline (like for book club) will break out how many pages I have to read a day or most of the time in a hour to make my goal! :)

Thanks for the great post!

Trish @ Love, Laughter, Insanity said...

*bkclubcare - Thank you *blushes*

*CB - Haha--not very cool, but thank you. I haven't been on my reader in a while, so don't know if you've posted about it. But I'm definitely in for a play challenge.

*Darcie - I wish more people would put up videos because it is fun to see others, but it is very frightening!

Freshly made bed is the best!! :) Thanks for coming by, Darcie.
